Worship

Our vision is to gather people of different ages, backgrounds, and life stages to come together and worship!  We want our worship to be honest and relevant...meaning we want anyone to be able to walk in to our church on a Sunday morning and participate in the songs we sing.  Our worship is about having a real encounter with God...coming to Him and allowing Him to meet us where we are!  We want to be people who live a lifestyle of worship and let our worship on Sunday mornings flow out of that.

Sunday Morning Worship at Mountainbrook

“Enter His gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise; give thanks to Him and praise His name.” Psalm 100:4

We recognize that there are many ways to worship God.  One of the big ways we worship on Sunday morning is through music during our service.

How many different styles of worship music are there?  Too many to list!  But regardless of the genre of music, the size of the band, or the style they play—the point is all the same: to joyfully and passionately worship our Creator.  I want to let you in on why and how we do what we do in the Mountainbrook Worship Ministry:

Our heart is that people of different ages and different backgrounds can participate in worship.  This means we try to choose songs that appeal to a multi generational audience, songs that come from different origins—whether new or old.  We mix in hymns with new songs, pop-style worship with country, gospel songs with rock-influenced songs.  We want you to feel like there is something for you in our worship set, whether you grew up singing traditional songs or you have never been to church before.  What an awesome feeling for a family to come together in worship…varied ages, styles, and backgrounds!

Worship is a time of joy and a time of closeness with God…therefore we choose different songs in our set that reflect these themes.  Upbeat fun songs that people can clap to are chosen right alongside soft reflective songs.  We want to sing songs about God and His faithfulness and love as well as sing songs to Him from our hearts.

We really love it when the congregation joins in and sings along, claps, raises their hands, and just all around participates.  So we do our best to try and chose mostly familiar songs (at least that we have sung before at Mountainbrook) that are easy to sing along with.  We do however, want to keep it fresh and add in a new song or an old song sung in a different way.  We want the songs to help you worship and connect with God.

Here are some of the things we look for in our ministry members:

1. Completion of 101-401 classes.  These classes are an excellent way to grow in your relationship with God and discover what purposes He has created you for!

2. There are four elements of a great worship volunteer: talent (at least a basic level of musical aptitude), personality (your personality and attitude fit well with the team you are serving with), spiritual growth (you are growing and actively seeking to follow Jesus), commitment (you are able to attend all practices and events you have committed to).

3. Being an active, serving member of Mountainbrook.  The worship ministry is just one of the many ministries here. We stay involved with what is going on with the church family and serve in other areas as well.
