Once we turn from our sin and trust Jesus to save us and lead us, baptism becomes the next step. Baptism is an outward expression of an inward reality. It is a practice that symbolizes the dying to an old way of life – a life marked by sin – and a resurrection into a new family and a new way of life.
We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life. Romans 6:4
Baptism also represents the washing away of our sins.
And now what are you waiting for? Get up, be baptized and wash your sins away, calling on his name.
Acts 22:16
